Nigeria Best Practice Paper on Post-Abortion Care

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health, has committed to achieving targets of health-related Sustainable Development Goals, namely ‘Ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing’ (SDG3) and Gender equality’ (SDG5), including those on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and universal health coverage (UHC) through successful implementation of the National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDP) II, 2018–2022. One of the 15 Priority Areas of this plan is to promote universal access to comprehensive, quality sexual and health services throughout the life cycle and reduce maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) morbidity and mortality in Nigeria, of which provision of post-abortion care (PAC) is an essential component.

The event featured various discussions regarding sickle cell; prevention and personal care for sickle cell warriors by different experts in the field.

Members of staff Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, department of Pharmacy during the send-forth ceremony for Pharm. Kabir Hamza Kankara, HOD Pharmacy department on Saturday 20th May, 2023 who retired after 35 years of active service in the Hospital.
The event was graced by the Chief Medical Director Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, Dr. Suleiman B. M who was a special guest of honour at the ceremony and other dignitaries like the Executive Secretary Drugs Management & Supply Agency, Pharm. Bala Mani, the Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee of the Hospital, Dr. Abdulfattah M. Lawal, HOD Nursing Services, Nrs. Saidu Suleiman A.M, HOD Physiotherapy Shamsuddeen Lawal as well as other staff of the Hospital, family and friends.

The Management of Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina led by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Suleiman B.M alongside representatives of Umaru Musa Yaradua University during the handing over of one of the newly constructed 3 Suites Laboratory building for training of medical students of the institution on Wednesday 17th May, 2023.

Medical Consultants of Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina alongside staff from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University during a 5-day training exercise on “GRANT WRITING SKILLS, RESEARCH PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND SCIENTIFIC WRITING / DISSEMINATION” organized by the Management of the Institution under the leadership of Dr. Suleiman B.M.

The programme was held between Monday 8th – Friday 12th May, 2023 at the FTHK Conference Hall and was facilitated by renowned Prof. Kolawole Oyedeji (Director CREBTU, University of Lagos), Prof. Ademola Ajuwon (University of Ibadan), Prof. Oliver Ezechi (Nigerian Institute of Medical Research) and Prof. Aisha I. Mamman (Ahmadu Bello University Zaria).

The training was borne out of the need to train participants on research writing and crucial components of grantmanship in view of the new status of the Hospital and continuous optimal service delivery.
